What to Expect

Before starting the treatment process at RMA of Southern California, we need your input on telling us about your fertility and health concerns  or simply tell us your story. To have your previous medical records ready along with the initial consultation paperwork that we provide this will be a great first step. Our medical team will create an individualized treatment plan that takes your family planning goals, personal preferences, and schedule into account.

You can reach out to us to speak with a patient liaison and schedule an office visit at a time that works for you. Call us today at 424.293.8841 or fill out the form below to make an appointment.

During your initial consultation at RMA of Southern California you will see your physician, and be introduced to our nursing staff.  You will also be given a thorough financial consultation after meeting with your physician. The goal of the initial consultation is to answer any questions you or your physician may have and meet our “family”. We aim to identify the cause of the patient’s symptoms or problem and help personalize your treatment. Your nurse will assist you by following your doctor’s protocol to prepare the diagnostic testing you may need at your next appointment. Once we have your treatment option determined you will receive another financial consult to best understand the fees associated with the care.

Female Infertility Consultations

Your doctor will ask you questions about your medical history, and review your medical records, to get a feel for the obstacles you’ve faced in your struggle to start a family. Some of the questions will include:

  • How long have you been trying to conceive?
  • Have you ever been pregnant?
  • What kind of past fertility treatments have you had, if any?
  • What were the outcomes?
  • Have you ever had any major illnesses or sexually transmitted diseases?
  • What does your family medical history include?
  • Are you currently taking any medications?

Based on the answers and medical records you provide to your doctor may recommend additional testing.  The essential blood screening includes testing your hormone levels, genetic abnormalities, and the presence of any infectious diseases. Your doctor will want to know if you have a healthy reproductive system and will most likely request a uterine evaluation to check your uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

Your doctor will provide you with your personal statistics regarding getting pregnant to help you best understand the reason for the treatment they are recommending.

After the consultation with your doctor and testings, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet with RMA of Southern California’s financial counselor who will explain the costs of treatment, insurance concerns, and any emotional or psychological counseling or support you may need.

Male Infertility Consultations:

Your doctor will ask you questions about your medical history, and review your medical records to best understand your overall health. Some of the questions will include:

  • Your medical history and current health status.
  • Medications you are currently taking.
  • How long you’ve struggled with infertility issues.
  • Any existing reproductive conditions such as sexually transmitted diseases, undescended testicles, and varicoceles.

Your initial consultation may also include a complete physical examination of your reproductive anatomy. Your doctor will recommend a blood test and semen analysis. In some cases, your doctor will ask for genetic testing and ultrasound screening to help us get a better sense of the cause of your infertility.
